What they are & why you need one
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a registered address that enables visitors to reach your website, for example;
Your domain name is akin to a sign on the front of a shop, so it's important to ensure that the name you choose reflects your business, products and/or services in order to be easily found and identified when existing and potential customers search for you online.
How do I get one?
All our website packages include the registration of a .co.uk domain name (if you don't currently have one) which we will register in your
name, on your behalf. We will also manage your renewals so you never have to worry about the administration. A domain name is registered
and leased for a specified period of time (between 1 and 10 years). Although you can never own a domain name outright, provided you keep up with
the renewals, you are entitled sole rights to use it for as long as required. Should you find at some point it is no longer required, you can simply let it expire and eventually it will go back on general sale.
Higher level (premium) domains such as .com or .net are available at an increased cost and are usually renewable annually.
Can I register one anytime?
If a name you are considering is available, we strongly suggest it is registered straight away. Don't put it off; you can leave it parked and add hosting at a later date. If someone else registers it
first, you will have to either pick an alternative or try to buy the rights off the registrant - and let's face it, no one wants to be held to ransom!
We are happy to check for availability of a domain name on your behalf and assist with alternative suggestions should it be unavailable. Just email us or call 01244 811400
I already have a domain?
Should you already have a registered domain name, we can change the settings for you to enable it to work with your new hosting account.
You will continue to renew your domain with your current service provider (ISP), or you may transfer it over to us and we will manage
it for you.
If you have any questions regarding domain names or domain registration, we are more than happy to discuss them with you, please
